Heartfall
In a world where direct sunlight kills anything it touches in four seconds, the scrap town of Rusthollow survives on the floor of an abandoned quarry, in the shadow of Zenith, a city of stone that was cut out of that hole and lifted into the sky, taking the sky with it. All that still connects the two is one iron chain, the last of nine, hanging from the underside of the city above. Pell, a young fire devil who has watched that chain since he was a child. Kettle, a polite white robot who can carry four crates of tea on one arm. Vesper, a moth sorceress who pays one memory every time she tears a seam in the world. Together they climb the chain toward the one who holds everything up, a ten storey machine king named Atlas, and toward the question nobody down below has ever dared to ask: who owns the sky.
